A Story, A Smile, and Something New to Share
Dear Friend,
As summer winds down and school routines begin again, I just want to wish you and your family the very best this fall. I hope the transition back to school is going smoothly for you and your kids.
A Quick Story from My Journey
This author gig is not exactly what I thought it would be. When I first started, I imagined writing a book, getting it illustrated, publishing it—and then right away selling loads of copies, speaking at schools, and changing lives.
The reality? I published my first book and heard… crickets. Literally. At one outdoor author event, a cricket was walking across my books! I remember thinking, Is this really for me? Am I good enough?
But I kept going. One day, I tried to get into Barnes & Noble. By chance, the manager was there, and he actually gave me a date. At the event, not many people showed up—but one man and his son walked over. His smile was contagious.
He asked, “Did you write this?”
“Yes, I did,” I said, trying to sound proud.
“That must have been a lot of work. It looks so good.”
“It really was—thank you for noticing,” I replied.
He bought a copy for his son, then looked at me and said, “Man, you are going places. You have this aura about you. This light in your smile.”
I almost teared up right there. His encouragement meant more than he’ll ever know. Later, I looked at his newsletter signup… and his name was Jesus.
That day reminded me: always show kindness. You never know the impact it might have on someone else.
Something New
Alongside writing, I’ve been sharing more of my journey on TikTok—both as a dad and as a children’s book author. Over there, I post about the ups and downs of parenting, behind-the-scenes of writing, and the little lessons I’m learning along the way.
I’d love for you to check it out, connect with me there, and join the conversation:
