New Children’s Book Release: Emma Lee Spots Her Spot and the Story Behind It
Dear Friend,
I woke up this morning so excited I could hardly wait to share the news, Emma Lee is finally here!
Meet Emma Lee
A few days ago, I got the call that Emma Lee had arrived, and I’ve been buzzing ever since. I can’t wait for you to meet Emma Lee the Jersey cow. This book is especially close to my heart. I wrote it with two reasons in mind, one overarching, and one deeply personal.
At its core, Emma Lee Spots Her Spot is about accepting our differences and learning to celebrate them. Whether it’s the way we look, our personalities, or where we’re from, we are all different in a million small ways, and that’s what makes the world so beautiful and interesting.
The more personal reason behind this story comes from a beloved family member who was diagnosed with vitiligo, a condition that causes pigment to disappear in patches. As a child, you can imagine how hard that was, being noticed, being stared at. For a long time, they tried to hide their spots with makeup, just to avoid being made fun of. This story is for them. Because I know how brightly they shine, and how much more beautiful the garden is because they’re in it. When you read Emma Lee Spots Her Spot, I think you’ll understand.
A Little Delivery-Day Magic
When Emma Lee’s books arrived, my boys were beyond excited to meet the delivery driver and see what the boxes looked like. I always give them the first two copies of every new book for their bookshelves, so they were locked in from the start.
As I carried box after box from the truck (I really need to invest in a dolly), my boys were in the bed of the truck playing a game. They had built a “wall” of books on the tailgate and were hiding behind it, loudly whispering to each other. Every time I took two boxes off their wall, they would squeal and laugh, shouting, “Oh no! We have to fix it, they might get in!” By the time I came back, the wall was rebuilt.
We repeated this all the way to the very last box.
It stuck with me how genuinely helpful they were, but even more than that, how they turned helping Dad into pure joy. When we finished, they said, “That was fun! Can we do it again?”
My back strongly disagreed.
It’s wild to think that all of this started with simple story-building evenings at bedtime. And now, here we are, three books published, with two more already in the works.
Thank you for being part of this journey. I truly can’t wait for Emma Lee to meet you and your little readers.
Until next time,
A.B. Wade
